This would be a good question for your doctor. Maca may help the body to utilize glucose for energy rather than process it for fat storage. As for how it affects insulin levels, in my research I have not found specific studies or notes on that. It is always best to get the approval by your doctor before beginning any nutritional supplement. Your overall health in relation to the diabetes is a factor that must also be considered.

Because iron is naturally occuring in Maca it should be fine to use with your prescription prenatal vitamin. Maca is a food, so is spinach, blackstrap molasses and elk meat; these all contain iron and are good sources of iron, but you would not avoid them because you are taking a multivitamin. I hope this makes sense.

I went to my OBGYN today and she recommended a prescription prenatal and DHA supplement. It also contains iron. I currently am taking a multivitamin with iron as well, but am going to switch to the prenatal. i am not pregnant yet, but she wanted me to start on prenatals before hand while we are trying. I take Maca and have for a little less than a month I am up to 2 pills as I am introducing it slow. I know Maca has iron in it, and I want to know if I can take the prenatal pills with iron and the Maca and not overdose on iron? Thanks!
