Natural Fertility Treatments to Avoid Invasive Infertility Treatment and Get Pregnant

I Have PCOS. What Can I Do to Help Me Ovulate More Regularly?

by Hethir Rodriguez, B.S., M.H., C.M.T.

Question:

Dear Hethir,
I have PCOS (poly cystic ovary syndrome) and I was wondering what I can take to help me ovulate more regularly. I did one IVF cycle but was in a lot of pain, so I am taking a few months off from doing IVF and wanted to know what I should use  to help boost my fertility.
Thank you!

Hethir’s Answer:

You wrote me that question at the perfect time. I will be doing an interview on Thursday specifically about PCOS. Please look for that interview to be premiered, but till then here are four more tips:

  • Take a liver-support formula to help balance the hormones in the system. A great tea to drink for detoxification is the Liver Cleanse Flushing Tea. Drink a cup daily for 3 months. (Do not use once you are pregnant!)
  • We also created the PCOS Fertility Kit to help promote ovulation. This kit is the best program for helping to ovulate more regularly.
  • Another natural product that has had repeated success for promoting ovulation is Progesterone -If you have not ovulated for a while, DR. John Lee recommends in his book “What your Doctor May Not Tell You About Premenopause”, taking progesterone from days 5-26 for three cycles to temporarily suppress ovulation. On the fourth cycle, ovulation will often ocure.
  • Change your diet to an organic diet. Eat organic fruits, vegetables, whole grains, organic dairy (preferably raw) and free-rage or organic meats, (small amounts of milk or meats). The hormones added to dairy and meats will contribute to the issue so being strict about this is going to make the biggest difference. Cut out all processed foods and eat only foods in there whole form. You will need to begin preparing most of your meals.

Diet change has proven results for example; researchers at the University of Surrey followed 367 couples for 3 years. 37% of these couples had a history of infertility and 38% of the women had previous miscarriages. They were put on a program consisting of organic foods, an individualized vitamin supplement, and alcohol and tobacco avoidance. At the end of the study, 89% of the couples had given birth to healthy babies, and none had a miscarriage.

If you do decide to do IVF later on, do not take any of these herbs during the IVF cycle.
I hope this helps, and look for the interview to come out later this week!
    Blessings,
    Hethir

hi my name is michelle and i want to know what kind of teas are good for getting prego???

    3 Dalene November 2, 2009

    Hi Michelle,

We like Conceptions Tea. Conceptions Tea contains herbs that normalize, tone, and nourish the female reproductive system while supporting hormone balance. This tea would be good for women who don’t have time to mix and prepare herbs themselves, it is conveinient and easy as well as great for trying to conceive.

If you are interested in herbs for fertility and overall female health you might want to read our page on Fertility Herbs. This page lists many great herbs for ttc, PCOS, Endometriosis, ect. It is a great resource for those wanting to learn about many herbs for fertility and what they are used for. Many of the herbs on this page can be blended into a tea at home. You can purchase loose leaf herbs at most health food stores or from a local herbalist in your area.

This information about how to help my body ovulate with PCOS was helpful. I have been ttc for over 7 years now. I have taken a couple of cycles of Clomid but I have never been able to consistently stick with a fertility specialist due to the high cost. I have been hoping and praying that it will happen naturally. I must admit though that I do not live the healthiest lifestyle. I get discouraged with all the challenges that PCOS cause and give up too soon. I would love to begin this new year off with a brighter outlook and good start.

    Thank you!
