I find that I can't take prenatal vitamins with iron in them. So far I have only found one brand that doesn't add iron. GNC has a prenatal vitamin without iron. I don't know the quality of the vitamin, but I know I don't get headaches when I take them. I do supplement with a form of iron that doesn't bother me. This is my fifth pregnancy. I always used prenatal vitamins before and during my pregnancies. So far four healthy babies.

Yes, I have PCOS and have very imbalanced hormones, so prenatals were not enough for me.

Hi Jen,

Everybody is very different, there are many factors at play... for some women a simple change such as getting more iron or other nutrients found in a multivitamin makes all the difference. But in other cases it may be something else that is out of balance... such as hormones, stress, etc.

I have to say, I took prenatal vitamins for years before I became pregnant and it never seemed to help. I even took the fancy kind from the health food store. I ended up using injectable fertility medications to get pregnant after trying diet and exercise and acupuncture for my PCOS.
