Progesterone pills or cream?

Postby shanie » Tue Nov 24, 2009

All the research that I have done talks about using natural progesterone cream. But when I went to our local pharmacist who makes the cream he suggested I take the pills. I am wondering what the difference is and if one is better than the other.

I have endometriosis and have been trying for 6 years.

Thanks, Shanie

Hi Shanie,

Are you sure your Pharmacist makes natural progesterone cream? Usually progesterone pills and suppositories are not natural progesterone.

All the best,

Hi Darlene,

Thanks for the quick reply!

I know he makes the natural progesterone cream as my mom did a lot of research about this when she went into menopause and got her cream from him, the cream is what I told him I wanted to take during my phone consultation with him, but when he sent me the email recommendation for my Dr. to sign, he put this on it:

I would also recommend that she start on a prescription for progesterone 200 mg gradual release capsules taking 1 capsule at bedtime. She would take that capsule from ovulation to the first day of menses, day 15 to the first day of menses.

When I asked him about it, he then sent me this as a response. To be honest it confuses me.

Progesterone orally will get me better drug levels than the cream, and I am also looking for one of its metabolites, namely allopregnenolone to help as well. This metabolite is not made if used topically.

Should I ask him for the cream??

Thanks so much!

Does anyone have any input on this thread? I am due to start the progesterone in a few weeks and still need to get it ordered and sent here. I really want to make the right choice and truly trust you at natural fertility here.

Thanks!

Hi Shanie,

Sorry about the delay, Thanksgiving holiday:)!

I would ask him what his cream is made out of? He could mean that when you use his cream topically your body does not make the metabolite allopregnenolone. He mentions the words "drug levels", to me this says that his cream is a medication, not a natural supplement like our progesterone creams are.

Thank you!! I just got an answer back from him and all that is in the tablets is: Progesterone, microcrystalline cellulose. Can't get any more pure than this. I specifically asked if it was the bio identical progesterone too and he said it was the real deal! I'm going to try it... I can't wait... my PMS symptoms are killer this month, tender breast so bad I can barely walk :(

Thanks for helping me figure out what to ask him. This all can be so overwhelming!!

I'll post an update sometime!
