April- It would be best to begin the Progesterone Cream after the fertility cleanse.

Deborah- I need to discuss this with Hethir first, so we are on the same page...I will get back to you on this one.

Re: Progesterone...confusing??? Help!

Postby DeborahA » Tue Feb 16, 2010

Hi there,

I think I'm having a problem. I have been monitoring my cycle with BBT temperatures. Saturday my temp was 97.3, then Sunday it went up to 97.8. The Thursday prior my opk was what appeared to be positive. When I saw the 97.8 on Sunday I assumed I ovulated becuase of the possible positive opk and my CM was eggwhite. Then on Monday my temp went down to 97.5. I assumed it went lower because I took my temp 3 hours later than normal.

On Monday evening I took 1 dose of progesterone cream assuming I ovulated on Sunday. Today my temp droped even lower to 97.0. Just to be sure I took another OPK test and this time it was the strongest positive I've ever seen, which means I havn't ovulated yet but I took 1 dose of progesterone cream. Have I just messed everything up and now prevented myself from ovulating this month?

What do I do now??? Could 1 dose of the cream prevent ovulation, or do I still have a chance of ovulation this month.

Please help, this has never happened to me before.
Thank you.

Hi Deborah,

Taking it one time before ovulation should not prevent ovulation. Be sure and check your temp. at the same time everyday, so you don't get a false positive.

Hethir wrote:With PCOS progesterone supplementation can help to make a big difference with PCOS. It can seem confusing when you should use it since usage is based on a menstrual cycle. In this case choosing your own cycle can help to establish a pattern. Mimicking a general cycle is best. Following the same suggested usage as someone who has a cycle, just choose your own and mark it on the calendar.

Vitex works great in conjunction with progesterone cream. Vitex is working on the the underlying imbalance (which takes some time) while the progesterone helps in the current cycles.

can i use this method too? i bleed for 45 days or so. does this mean i can take it when im bleeding to stop the bleeding and have a normal cycle? also how do i know when to stop after i stop bleeding? im sorry if this is confusing...

you can read all about my problem here: http://natural-fertility-info.com/discuss/how-to-use-progestrone-cream-t753.html

Re: Progesterone

Postby DeborahA » Mon May 31, 2010

Hi there,

I have a question about progesterone. For the past 2 months I have been taking Prometrium progesterone orally. The first month was 200mg/day and this past month we doubled the dose to 400mg/day because my luteal phase is 11 days long. I start spotting lightly on day 11 and 12 (post ovulation) and then by day 13 it's a full flow. My Dr. increased the dose to see if it would help lenghthen my luteal phase.

Clearly the prometrium is not working so I've purchased the Natural Progesterone Cream but I'm wondering about the doseage. Your cream indicates that it's 20mg per pump. Does the cream work differently than the pills. With me being on 400mg of prometrium a day I still started spotting 11 days post ovulation. Will the 20mg per pump twice a day work for me to lenghthen my luteal phase?

Also, I've read that Vitamin B6 helps correct LFD. I was thinking of adding this to my daily vitamins but if I do get pregnant I think 100mg of B6 is too much to take while pregnant so would I stope the B6 (except for what I get in a pre-natal) and then continue the Cream for the 1st trimester of pregnancy?

Thanks.

DeborahA,

I am sorry that this post somehow slipped by us. I hope you get my reply.

Progesterone prescriptions are very different than natural progesterone cream. If you have questions about your prescribed progesterone please talk to your doctor about it. Good communication between your doctor and you is imperative for good health care.

Will the 20mg per pump twice a day work for me to lenghthen my luteal phase?

Natural progesterone cream can help to supplement your body’s own progesterone levels and lead you back to a state of natural balance.

Natural progesterone cream comes from plant fats and oils called diosgenin which is extracted from either from Mexican Wild Yams or soybeans. In the laboratory diosgenin is chemically synthesized into a molecular structure that is identical to real human progesterone.

The United States Pharmacopoeia (USP) denotes a recognized standard of purity and strength. It is sometimes referred to as “human-identical” or “bio-identical” progesterone, which differentiates it from synthetic progestins or progestogens.

Natural progesterone is safe to use during pregnancy and may likely prevent many first trimester spontaneous abortions but should be used with caution in nursing as it may stop lactation. In the first trimester of pregnancy progesterone production is the sole responsibility of the ovaries, often fail to produce sufficient levels to maintain the pregnancy. By the second trimester, the placenta itself is responsible for producing progesterone, and it hikes the level of this hormone to 486% higher than the non-pregnant norm.

Synthetic progesterone drugs, not being natural progesterone, have side effects that if used to maintain the pregnancy may do damage to the baby.

If you are taking progesterone and get pregnant, you must continue taking progesterone until at least the 16th week. I personally would not stop if I had seriously low levels to begin with. But it is best to work with your health care practitioner if this is the case. They will continuously monitor your levels to make sure they are healthy for pregnancy.

Another idea of an herb that is specific for lengthening the Luteal Phase-Vitex. Vitex has been found to help normalize ovulation and improve a short luteal phase. In one study, vitex helped normalize progesterone levels and increased the luteal phase from 5.4 days to 11.4 days. In addition, two double-blind studies show vitex extract increases a woman’s fertility and chances of successful conception.

I hope this helps you to understand more.
