Preparing for 2nd IVF

Postby Tara » Thu Jul 01, 2010

I am new to this so I hope someone can help me. My husband and I have been trying to have a baby for over 2 years. I found out last year that I had endometreosis and the doctor corrected it with a surgery. I have done 2 IUI with not success, then we tried the HCG cycle but had to cancel because my doctor saw a drop in hormone. Last month we did our 1st IVF and got tested positive for pregnancy, but the baby didn't implant and we lost the baby a week later. I only have two embryos from the 8 matured eggs they retrived. (They think that I might have issues with my egg quality.) We are scheduled for another IVf in September and I found your web site and decided to order the fertility cleanse kit, the egg health improvement kit, and the fertility massage dvd. I just finished with the portion of liver cleansing, and am wondering if I can start taking the supplements for the egg improvement now along with the conception tea and supplements. I have to start taking fertility drugs in early Septmber and I want to be finished with all this by then.

I'm also seeing an accupucturist as well. I was told that it can help with improving the chance of success with IVF. It's been a long road and I'm hoping for a happy ending. Thank you for your time.

Hi Tara welcome to the Natural Fertility Community!

It is fine to begin the Improve Egg Health Kit at the end of the cleanse.

Acupuncture has been found to greatly improve your chances of a successful IVF.

Since my last question, I've been seeing an accupuncturist every other week, who also prescribed me some Chinese natural supplement to take. I'm into my 3rd month of taking the egg-quality-improving kit and I'm starting my 2nd IVF later this month(September).
Now I encountered a new question: I've been told by a couple of people who had taken a large dose of L-arginine and then got pregnant (through IVF). These people didn't get pregnant on their first IVF but with a large dose of L-arginine on their 2nd try, they did. I'm trying to increase all my chances with this second IVF and I'm considering taking it too (aside from the 500 mg that I'm taking everyday now). My questions is: when do I start taking it? and how much should I take? Please help. Your web site has been a great source of information and it's been nice to feel like not going through all this alone.

Hi Tara,

This high of a dose would be best taken under the supervised guidance of a naturopathic doctor or holistic healthcare practitioner. Hethir chose to put information out there about a study in 1999 that was done with L-Arginine that showed a increased rate of pregnancy in IVF patients who supplemented 16 grams, but this infomation was given only to let you know that it is possible. Because we are not working with you one on one like a practitioner would we cannot say how much should be taken, as the risk is too high. Also if there is any history of herpes, oral or vaginal, L Arginine is known in higher doses to create a flair up. It would be best to be under the care of a practitioner who can suggest a proper dosage just for you and who can monitor you so that imbalances do not occur.

Hi.
Thank you for your response. Since your last response, I decided to just take the daily suggestion dose of L-arginine (1000mg) along with all the stuff in the egg quality kit (CoQ10, Prenatal, Maca, Royall Jelly). This IVF cycle was completely different from last time. They retrieved 7 eggs, 5 of which fertilized naturally in the dish. (The last time we did IVF, the embryologist thought my egg quality was poor and had to inject sperm into each egg and only 2 fertilized.) We decided to put in 3 embryos and right after the embryo transfer, we went to see an accupunturist and now I'm pregnant!!! My HCG level is now 1471(16 days after the embryo transfer) and increasing. My question is, when should I take all these natural supplements till? Is it safe to take them during pregnancy?

Thanks for your your help. I'm now a believer.

Tara! Good for you! Congratulations!

Stop taking the following supplements (it would be best to wean yourself off of these): L-Arginine. Maca may help keep progesterone levels up in the first trimester, but if you get your progesterone levels tested and you have a tendency toward low progesterone it may be best to switch to a Natural progesterone cream. Progesterone usually does not need to be supplemented after the 1st trimester because the placenta begins producing the progesterone. If you choose to continue the maca you need to get the approval of your doctor, same for royal jelly, let your doctor know.

CoQ10 and Prenatal may be continued.

Please keep us updated! :D
