PCOS

Alright, here is my story, maybe there is an angel out there who can help me.

I am 26 years old. I have never received the gift of AF. I was diagnosed with PCOS when I was 21. not such good news you want to hear when your so young. The past two years I have been having pain on one side, and then alternating to the other side. Last year in January I had spotting, light pink, sometimes brown, that stopped at night and started up in the morning, but nothing heavy or consistant. It last for 5 days. The same thing happened in April, then in June. And nothing since. So being frustrated, and not knowing what to do, I researched natural remedies for infertility and PCOS. I found a lot of useful information on vitex. I did researched for 3 months, and finally thought it might be smart to try it, wouldn't hurt, right? So I started taking vitex in late february, and it has been a month. I don't get the pain in my lower abdomen as much anymore, and the acne along my jawline is finally disappearing. Although I have started cramping recently, which I thought maybe i would finally get a real AF, but nothing at all. I also get what I like to call, "butterflies," in my uterus. Maybe muscle spasm, but I've had them for years so its normal for me. I am thinking about starting maca, and possibly royal jelly because I have done research on others and find that they too have a great impact on PCOS and that it would help in putting my hormones back in balance. Or so I pray that it will work for me. So, I guess my question is that has anyone out there had any success with pairing all these together? What did you do? How much did you take and how often? I really pray for a baby someday, has always been a dream for me. Maybe something can finally help me turn it into a reality.

So, ahead of time, thank you for reading, and thank you as well for the help!

Hi Mandy,

Are you following a PCOS Specific Diet? This may greatly improve the effectiveness of the herbs because your body will not be fighting insulin resistance.

Welcome and I hope you find some support!

Mandy,
Hello fellow cyster! I too have PCOS and I have decided to go the natural route to fixing my issues. I have been taking Maca (4 per day) since January, I also started using progesterone cream since February and started using vitex (3 per day) in Feb as well. After starting the progesterone cream I actually had a cycle. I started with the loading dose 1/4 t. 2x a day and I did it for only nine days before I started a period. It was really light and lasted about five days. I have been temping and according to my temps I ovulated on day 10 of my cycle, so I started using it again after ovulation and lo and behold I started another cycle 15 days after ovulation! I'm now on day 13 of my cycle and I don't think I've ovulated yet this cycle but I will keep tracking and using my herbs and cream because I know these things take time to balance out. I'm following the PCOS diet and doing the self fertility massage with the castor oil pack as well. I feel so much better and I've lost a little weight too. Good luck and keep us posted on your journey.

DeeDee,

Thank you for responding, I am not sure if i would be able to do progesterone because they say to use it from ovulation, til period. In which as far as I can tell I don't have either. :( I am currently on a diet, in which I've lost around 25 pounds so far. But I've had new symptoms, my breasts become painful and a burning sensation. It has stopped me in my tracks and I had to put pressure on it, it was uncomfortable. I had some light pink/brown discharge which only lasted for a day, and that confused me. I don't know if I am doing more damage to my body and its getting confused or its my bodys way of telling me I'm on the right track and just keep trucking or what. Would adding maca in any shape or form make things worse? Or could it be that last push I need to jump start the path to ovulation and possibly fertility..?

Hi Mandy,
Congratulations on losing so much weight! That is a big accomplishment!
I think our bodies do such crazy things when trying to balance out. Don't give up your good habits. It took a long time to mess us up and so it might take a while to fix it as well. I would say that your symptoms sound like progress, sometimes it feels worse before you get better. Something is better than nothing.
I've been using Maca, in pill form, since January. Maca is a super food, it isn't a hormone or anything. It shouldn't mess you up. It will help to nourish the glands that control your hormones and if the glands are working the rest should soon follow. Plus you might even find it increases your libido! ;)

I started using the progesterone by just picking a day and starting it. I hadn't had AF in two years and so I had no idea either. I checked out the progesterone guide Q&A that Hethir posted and decided to just pick a day. After nine days of using it I started a light, spotting flow which lasted about five days. I started temping and figured I'd start using progesterone again on day 14. That way I could be consistant and hopefully my body would get the message and join the cycle. So far so good. I discovered that I did ovulate and so I started to use the cream after that. I once again got a cycle and have yet to ovulate but I started the cream on day 14 anyway so that it will be consistent.

For me the key to all of this is consistancy. Over time my body will begin to balance itself if I continue to nourish my body with nutritious foods, exercise, and supplements. Keep trucking and hopefully I'll be reading your success story! You've come so far already, 25lbs! 8-) Have you thought about a cleanse?

DeeDee,

Thank you! You have been so helpful with helping me in how I should get my body back in check. I appreciate any and all help. I have thought about the clense, I know it would be useful. And tomorrow I am going to go purchase some maca, in pill form, because I've heard the powder has a horrible taste. Is there anyway you could give me a glimpse of what your PCOS diet consists of day to day? I have tried to get a list of some meals that I could put together, but am having a pretty hard time. Trying to feed me and my boyfriend, it's hard because some of the foods I have made, he just does not like.

It feels so good to finally have some support and knowing that I am doing the right things. I've been quiet about what I've been going through because I was naieve. I thought that if I just ignored it, that it would go away. But 7 years later, I realized it isn't going to. And as I get older, the desire to have a baby is so much stronger. Here's to wishful thinking!! I'll keep you posted on any changes as well!! Thank you DeeDee, Dalene and Hethir!

Just a little update! Still no AF but all of my crampiness and being bloated went away! The breast tenderness also ceased aswell. That makes me happy. I've been on maca for about a week, not sure if that is what is helping me or not, but it makes life easier!! Thanks!! :D
