Maca Question

Postby KBL » Sun Mar 07, 2010

My DH and I have been taking Maca for about a month now. It seems to have reduced our libido! Has anyone else experienced that?

Hi KBL,

Did you decide to stop taking it? Did maca really contribute to your lowered libido, just checking on you!

Hi Dalene,
Maca sure seemed to work the opposite for both my DH & I for awhile. We are still taking it. It seemed to balance out after awhile :D . I updated in my journal but I forgot about this post. Thanks for asking.

A New Maca Question

Postby KBL » Tue Sep 07, 2010

So I have had some weird things happen and was wondering if Maca could be the issue.
I was getting regular with a 28 day cycle rather than my previous 26 day.
I was taking a tsp of maca a day and decided to increase that because I learned that the raw versus the gelatinized Maca had different dosages. So I increased my Maca to 2 tsp and thought about working towards the Tblsp. After that my cycle came at 26 days again. I did not increase the Maca any further and now this time I have had weird spotting twice.
I spotted one time about a week after I O'd and now yesterday (1 week before AF), I spotted enough that I actually thought AF had started last night. Now today, I had some slight brown tinge this morning on paper, but nothing else.

Is it possible that with my unique hormonal make-up(Estrogen Dominate), that it is too much Maca for me? I am confused because since doing my cleanse I have not suffered the symptoms of Estrogen Dominance except when I eat soy. So I don't know why things are off for me right now. I decided that I just had profuse early spotting. I have had early spotting before but it was never more than once and usually was only a pink tinge.

The only other thing that has changed for me, is that I am eating mushrooms.
Please share your thoughts.

Are you using Fertilica Maca? The suggested dosage on that one is 1 tsp.= 2,700mg a day. The maximum suggested dosage for any maca is 3000mg a day. Working up to TBSP. a day is a lot of maca.

Thanks for your answer.
I did see that the Fertilica Maca was supposed to be only 1 tsp, so that was what I was originally using for my Raw Wild-crafted Maca. Later I saw some fertility smoothie recipes using 1 Tbsp per serving. So I researched the difference between the gelatinized Maca and the Raw Maca and found that the raw required a much larger dose to get the same results. Perhaps my research was incorrect?

I know people have different reactions and some need more or less. When I tried Vitex, I did not like it and greatly reduced the dosage to be able to deal with it and still get benefits. That is why I suspected that perhaps the increase of Maca could have been the problem.
I am happy to stick with 1 tsp if that is adequate as it would last a lot longer =).
Thank you for your feedback, it is helping me to sort this out.

The gelatinized is more concentrated. So that would be correct. Thanks for letting me know.
