PCOS & Pregnancy

Postby Michelle » Mon Apr 13, 2009

Hey Hethir or Dalene, what should a woman with PCOS take once pregnant? Obviously she should stick to the Baby & Me Vitamins, but herb wise should she continue taking anything? Also, should she continue to eat the 5 meals a day or should that be modified?

Hi Michelle,

It is helpful if you let us know what you are taking and or doing to help your PCOS. Often times if a woman is using the Progesterone, she should continue using is during her pregnancy until the pregnancy is well established, this is to make sure you don't miscarry. As always do this under the supervision of a medical doctor. Eating the 5 meals a day is a good idea, even during pregnancy. As your belly grows it becomes harder and harder to eat bigger meal (3 a day). 5 meals ensures you are getting all you need and sustaining your energy throughout the day. If you are taking DIM, you may want to discontinue use if you become pregnant. If you are taking Evening Primrose Oil you will want to discontinue use while pregnant, as it can cause uterine contractions. Continue Prenatal vitamins and EFA's.

Best Wishes,

Dalene
