Herbs for low sex drive

Postby fellow_cyster » Mon Jun 28, 2010

As Hethir knows from Facebook ;) I just had a baby in May. My PCOS symptoms decreased during my second and third trimester but man are they returning now with a VENGEANCE.

My problem is finding things I can take while breastfeeding.

Low sex drive...I mean EXTREMELY LOW is obviously making things tricky marriage wise. I know its related to testosterone levels (which I know are out of whack again because I have the other common issues : hair loss, excess facial hair, etc) but what can I take, if anything, to reduce these levels WHILE breastfeeding?

I know White Peony tea is supposed to help test. levels but I don't know about safety and all.... anything you can suggest, please??

Thanks,
Pamela

Congratulations Pamela! Yay for you and your new baby!

Some super safe herbs that will also help digestion- Ginger and cinammon are warming and stimulating are traditionally used to sitmulate sexual appetite.

Maca is safe to use during breastfeeding with the approval of your doctor/midwife.

Vitex is also safe and may help to balance hormones. (not specifice for libido, but hormonal balance is important for libido)

Milky oats may also be helpful and is safe for lactation (may also increase milk supply)

Know that what you are experiencing is completely normal and most new parents experience very low libido. You are breastfeeding, you have a baby on you most of the day, you are tired, all of this makes it very difficult to get in the mood! Be patient with yourself and your husband and I hope his will return the favor.

When you are done breastfeeding if low libido still continues you may want to learn about Damiana.
