Can Vitex and B6 taken together overstimulate ovaries?

Postby Mel » Tue Dec 29, 2009

Hi, I am experiencing some dull ovary pain a couple of days past ovulation that feels a bit similar to what I felt when taking Clomid in the past, and I'm wondering whether my supplements could be causing overstimulation of my ovaries? I have been treated for endometriosis and cysts in the past. And my ovaries were overstimulated by just 50mg Clomid in the past. I ovulate on my own and am taking the supplements to lengthen my luteal phase and prevent pre-menstrual spotting. I have had one natural pregnancy ending in miscarriage. This is my first cycle supplementing with Vitex, B6, and natural progesterone cream. I am taking the Vitex in a tea (a fertility blend with red raspberry, nettles, etc) which I drink 2x per day. I am taking 25mg B6 in addition to what's in my prenatal (15mg). I just started the progesterone last night. I ovulated day before yesterday. This was also the first cycle I can recall having light bleeding a day or two before ovulation, which I understand is a sign of strong ovulation?

Could the Vitex or maybe the combination of things I am taking cause my ovaries to overstimulate?

I should add that I am also drinking a smoothie in the morning with bee propolis, bee pollen, and royal jelly.

Thanks!

Hi Mel,

I have never heard of light bleeding being a sign of 'strong ovulation'.

I don't know what amount of Vitex is in the tea you are drinking. I am not sure how effective the Vitex will be in that form. I like the capsules or tincture better.

Directions for use of Vitex
Capsules: 1,000mg a day is the suggested amount to use. Take vitex capsules all month long except during menstruation.

Tincture: Take 10-15 drops of vitex extract, taken 2-3 times a day all month long except during menstruation.

However, unlike powerful hormone drugs, vitex works slowly to normalize the body. Maximum benefits are often achieved after 6-12 cycles with vitex.

I don't think if you are taking the proper dosage and for the amount of time you have been taking these supplements that your ovaries would be overstimulated. Herbal supplements are effective over time, when taken properly.

You have not been taking these supplements long enough for me to say whether or not they are effecting you negatively. If you continue to have pain is there a possibility of it being endometriosis or cyst pain. You could eliminate the herbs one at a time and see if the pain goes away.

Thanks for the response. The pain actually went away yesterday, but I just found today at 4 days past ovulation that I have very light pink spotting again as I had a day or two before ovulation. This is the first cycle that I'm experiencing bleeding this early in my cycle, so I'm really confused as to what's going on.
