Yes you can combine the two at the same time. BUT you do not want to use the Fertility Cleanse while on fertility medications. The herbs in the kit could interfere with the medications. Please keep in touch and let us know how everything goes for you!

I am 30 years old, I have had many failed IUIs and couple of failed IVF cycles. My doc gave up on me saying I have less than 1% chance to conceive cause of low egg quality and that we should move on for a egg donor. We are not ready to give up yet, we were directed to the Natural kits in the site by a friend, and so I have been promptly taking the "Improve egg health kit" pills for a month now (along with a shot of wheatgrass.) I wanted to check with you to see if I can take the Fertility Cleansing kit now along with the Improve egg health kit? I understand that the cleansing kit is more of a foundation before taking the egg health kit, but would it be ok to use both the kits at the same time for the upcoming cycle, and continue taking Improve egg health kit thereafter?

Thanks!

Hi Patricia,

Honestly think you are headed in the right direction. I think it is smart to perhaps cut some of your herbs back. Dong Quai actually is NOT a good herb for women with heavy menstrual bleeding, this is because it is slightly blood thinning in action. I love yarrow, but honestly it could be cut out as well, it is not a fertility specific herb. Continuing with the Red Raspberry leaf and Nettles may be a good choice. Red Raspberry has astringent properties that help to stop heavy bleeding. It is also high in iron which may help prevent anemia due to heavy menstrual bleeding. Yarrow has a similar action, but it is not a uterine tonic like raspberry leaf is. You should not have to use Milk thistle for months at a time. Using it for cleansing and liver restoration here and there is fine, but unless you are taking medications that are damaging to your liver, you should not have to use this plant long-term. A pro-biotic is always a good choice! Women over 40 often need to focus on improving uterine and egg health as well as balancing hormones.

Here are some guides that you may find helpful:

I have been trying to conceive naturally since July 2010. In November 2010, I tried a single IUI treatment with donor sperm, and had no success. I am considering IVF, but the cost is an issue. I have conceived naturally in the past, but have not ever given birth. I will be 40 in July 2011 and my cycles are regular, every 28 days, every month.

Over the past 5 years my cycles have become very heavy and painful. I have not been diagnosed with any medical conditions, fertility or otherwise. My GYN told me that heavy menstrual cycles at my age, and having never given birth is "normal". My primary care physician told me that my cholesterol is unusually low, but nothing to be alarmed about. I was still concerned.

In an effort to take control of my perceived fertility issues, I began taking herbal supplements in late 2010. I have been taking vitex, red clover, red raspberry, don quai, milk thistle, yarrow, nettles and a pro-biotic. I am sure that I am taking too much and some of the supplements are duplicative of each other. I am also tired of swallowing all of these pills!... the good news is that my periods are no longer as painful. The bleeding is now heavy for only 2 days instead of 5 out of 7 days. My moods are far better than they have been in years. My frequent constipation, gassy gut and loud bowel sounds are finally gone!

I have noticed that once I skip a day or two of taking the supplements, my old symptoms come back in spades. I've had a dull headache since I missed a day last week when I was menstruating. Once my pills are done, I would like to continue with just the vitex, yarrow and the pro-biotic.

Help!!

Hi Ruth,

Vitex is an herb of patience and consistency. Because of your age there is not time to wait to begin this if you are wanting to try vitex. It needs to be taken consistently for 6-12 months in general to be effective. Sometimes after miscarriage your hormones need some time to adjust, since it has almost been a year here are some ideas for you to research more that may be helpful.

Pregnancy Prep is a great blend for women who want to boost their general fertility and enhance their chances of conception. It contains hormonal balancing herbs that are also very nourishing for the uterus.

The Fertility Cleanse in general is a great way for anyone who is experiencing fertility challenges to create a foundation for hormonal balance and a healthy uterus for implantation. Fertility Cleansing creates a "clean slate" within the body that helps the body to respond and utilize other natural remedies better.

Be sure that you are eating really well and taking a good wholefood prenatal vitamin or other women's multivitamin!

Best Wishes,

Dalene

Hello, I have a question. I'm 44 (will be on April 25th) I had a miscarriage at about 9weeks in July 2010. My period came back about a month later but every since then it has been irregular most of the time very late. Before the miscarriage it was very regular 28 days. My last period was in Feb 2011 and about 6 days after my period ended I had a lot of spotting which ran right into the next month period so I had to guess as to when my period actually started, after it ended my cycle hasn't started up again. Do you have any advice as to what I can try to regulate my cycle again. I have some Chaste Tree extract but have not tried yet. I have 3 adult children and TTC again.

Hi Arlene,

We do not recommend using Vitex while using DHEA. Vitex does have the potential to throw off what your doctor is trying to accomplish with the DHEA. Please let your doctor know of any herbs you are wanting to use or are using while you are in their care.

We do not support the use of DHEA as taking pure DHEA is likely to convert into the wrong hormones and can also go into androgen and estrogen pathways, causing more hormonal imbalance. The goal should be to support the endocrine system by using adaptogen herbs and supportive nutrients to help the body to restore hormonal balance instead of using supplements as hormonal replacement therapy. In your case you are using it in preparation for IVF, which is a medical procedure. We are not medical doctors we are herbalists so our views may differ a bit.

We wish you all the best for your IVF!

Hi Dalene,
My ivf doctor got me started with Dhea for 3 months. I was curious with vitex so I was taking it for 2 weeks and my period started. (no period for 3 months before taking vitex). I'm still taking dhea and stop the vitex. I'm afraid that vitex would interfere with the dhea. Does it??? I just want to regulate my period before I start my ivf cycle.

Kinda regards,
Arlene

Congratulations Marilyn! We are so excited for you!

If you were taking Maca for low progesterone you may want to talk to your doctor about continuing it into your 1st trimester. Please get your doctors approval to continue the Maca. Be sure you are taking a good prenatal vitamin. We like Baby and Me Multivitamin because it is 100% whole food. You should not have to continue taking extra folic acid if you're prenatal vit. contains 800mg of folic acid. You may continue the vit. B if your doctor thinks you need it. Please let us know how you are doing as you progress.

Best Wishes,

Hi Arlene,

We do not support the use of DHEA as taking pure DHEA is likely to convert into the wrong hormones and can also go into androgen and estrogen pathways, causing more hormonal imbalance. The goal should be to support the endocrine system by using adaptogen herbs and supportive nutrients to help the body to restore hormonal balance instead of using supplements as hormonal replacement therapy. If you do whish to use DHEA, we would suggest you work closely with your doctor a naturopath so your hormones can be monitored while you are taking DHEA.

Best Wishes,
